Montgomery Board Approves Contract Intent for Removal of Last Lead Service Lines

The Village of Montgomery will soon remove the last remaining lead service lines in the village.

Earlier this week, the village board unanimously approved intent to award a $1,060,741 contract for Brandt Excavating of Morris to complete lead service line replacement for 105 lines in the Marviray Manor subdivision and in downtown Montgomery.

As WSPY previously reported, the village applied for a 100% forgivable loan up to $1 million through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the contract is contingent on that approval and would be finalized essentially when the paperwork is returned.

​Officials in past meetings said remaining funds are being used from 2017 bonds.
Village Engineering consultant Pete Wallers told the board that the bid came in around $70,000 under the engineer's estimate.

He says the village will host a resident meeting on September 17th at village hall where residents can set up appointments with the contractor for line replacement and questions will be answered. 
Montgomery Village President Matt Brolley also commented on the upcoming lead service line removal.

In other items, the board briefly discussed guidelines and standards for a Metra Commuter Rail station, pending whether or not a Metra extension into Kendall County receives necessary funding and requirements.

Montgomery Community Development Director Rich Young writes in board documents that as a part of the next step in the potential Kendall County Metra extension, Metra has asked potential communities along the service line to consider what would be included in station and parking facility design in the village.

Officials essentially said the measure is for Metra to ballpark various costs.
